This webpage's topic is weapons used in the American Revolution, but it is inspired by the book "My Brother Sam is Dead". It is a story about a boy named Tim Meeker and his life during the Revolutionary War. In the beginning, his brother (Sam) comes home to reveal that he had joined the Continental Army. Sam leaves again after dinner and Tim goes through many strange and difficult things after that, like carrying a supposed spy letter. What will happen to Tim and Sam? I shouldn't give away too much, so I will just explain what the inspiration was for this site. Following dinner, Tim does his chores. While he is does them, Sam talks to him and says the reason why he came home: to get father's Brown Bess.
The Brown Bess was a British musket used in the Revolution. It was named after Queen Elizabeth I of England and was quite common. The Brown Bess could be used for many tasks. As Tim says, "My father used the Brown Bess for deer and sometimes when he went out with the other men to go after a wolf that had gotten into the livestock."
