Bayonets
Bayonets were a main part of most muskets. They basically turn the gun into a surprisingly effective spear. Bayonets could be very deadly when soldiers were relying on flintlock weapons that could become unreliable in the rain. Originally they went into the inside of the barrel, but eventually bayonets were attached to the outside.
Tomahawk
One problem with using a rifle is that there was no place to put the bayonet. That was what tomahawks were for. Most soldiers without muskets carried these for close-quarters combat. The tomahawk is like the smaller version of an ax.
